This week is National Chemistry week. Today, be on the lookout for students in “Moley Potter” attire. 

 

This week is Also RED RIBBON WEEK Each day, the library is hosting Library Lunch Crafts.Today, you can enjoy “Screaming Balloons.” Wednesday is “Ghost Sun Catcher,” and Thursday is “Howling Cups.” There is also a candy count and a coloring contest. Stop by the library on your lunch shift and join in Red Ribbon Week fun.

 

News from the Guidance Department:

 

  • The College and Career Fair  is finally here! College recruiters, LOSFA (which is TOPS), military personnel, and businesses will be located today on the Boardwalk from 10:30 am until 1:30 pm. Delta will have a simulator for our students, and it will be located at the end of the Boardwalk. Also, please take advantage of the photo-op area that will be located near the concession stand. We would love to see your pics, #wmhscollegeandcareerfair2023.

 

  • The Voice of Democracy Scholarship application is due October 31st and The Burger King Scholarship Application is now available. The deadline to apply for that scholarship is December 15th.  As always, copies of the Scholarship Newsletter are available in Guidance. Stop by and pick up your copy. Or check out the scholarship page on gorebs.org

 

  • October is College Application month and each week during 2nd period, we have been completing an activity. Tomorrow’s activity is Mascot Matchup if you want to brush up on your college mascots.

News from Testing

 

  • The PSAT test is this Wednesday. If you registered to take that test, please check with your English teacher for more information. 

 

  • The PreACT test will be given to all 9th and 10th graders Tuesday, November 7th beginning 1st period.

 

  • The AP $40 non-refundable exam deposits are also due tomorrow. Those payments are to be made through online school payments at gorebs.org. If you have questions, see Mr. Lovelady.

Sports News: 

 

We loved seeing all the pink last week. This week’s spirit theme is Tie-Dyed. Be getting ready for that.

 

  • The Varsity football team plays at ASH this Friday. Make plans to come support them.

 

  • The Volleyball team plays at Parkway today and has a home game vs. Ouachita on Wednesday.

 

  • The Cross Country team has a meet at Tech Farms Thursday

 

  • The Tennis team has a match at Neville this afternoon.

Club and Organization News:

 

  • Rebel Art Club meeting will be this afternoon (Tues, Oct 24) after school until 4:30 in room 1109. If you still need to turn in dues or paperwork, bring those to the meeting. This meeting will include an election of officers. If you are seeking an office, have a brief speech prepared as to why you’d be a good club officer. If you want to be an officer but can’t attend the meeting, submit a video of your speech by this afternoon. Ballots will be posted on the club page once all speeches have been completed. 

 

  • FCS - You will be meeting tomorrow at 7:15 in the new gym.

 

  • West Monroe High School will be performing Disney's The Little Mermaid in April of 2024. Audition packets are available outside the choir room now. Auditions will be Monday Oct. 30th at 4 pm in the choir room. Follow the instructions given in the packet and we will see you on the 30th. Direct any questions to Mrs. Freeman. 

 

  • Key Club- You need to sign up to attend the Kiwanis club Trick or Treat for UNICEF this Thursday. All funds raised  will contribute to building community centers in the southern African nation called Insakas. These community centers provide spaces for children to learn and play, a community kitchen, playground, water, sanitation facilities, a vegetable garden, and age-appropriate toys and books to encourage development. 

 

  • National Honor Society Club t-shirts are in! If you have paid your club fee, you may swing by the library tomorrow morning or Wednesday morning of this week to pick up your shirts. Do that BEFORE the tardy bell. If you want to pick up your shirt during lunch,  head to room 7101 during any lunch shift. Also make sure to check the Instagram page for community service opportunities and be sure to record any projects in Google Classroom. See Mrs. Lovelady if you have any questions. 

 

  • The Board Game Club will be meeting tomorrow directly after school in the library.

 

  • WMHS will be hosting a Marching Festival in Rebel Stadium tomorrow. We all love the band. They definitely have school spirit as they’ve won the spirit stick twice already this year. Let’s come out and support them and show our spirit! 

 

  • The WMHS STUDENT LIFE committee is hosting a Christmas Dance, Friday, December 15th,  from 7-10 pm in the Edgewood Building. This dance is not a formal dance.  We are reserving that designation for Homecoming and Prom. Tickets are $20 per person, and the ticket price includes the dance t-shirt! Attire for this event is the dance t-shirt and school-appropriate jeans.  No shorts or hoodies will be allowed. Concessions will be sold at the dance.Tickets will go on sale Nov. 13- 17 (the week before the Thanksgiving holidays).  Only seniors and juniors can buy tickets Monday & Tuesday (11/13-14) online. Beginning Wednesday, 11/15, ticket purchases will be open to all students online.

 

  • Yearbooks are now on sale! Students can scan the QR codes on the posters in the hallways or go to balfour.com, search for West Monroe High School, and purchase a yearbook for $75. This price will increase, so buy your yearbook today! If you have any questions, email Mrs. Hatch at tatumhatch@opsb.net

 

  • Senior Baby Ads are also on sale at gorebs.org through online school payments. These ads are messages that go in the back of the yearbook dedicated to seniors purchased by their family and friends. You will receive more information in your English class. The deadline for ordering Senior Baby Ads is December 5th, so make sure you let your family and friends know to submit their ad for you ASAP!

  • Coach Osborne’s Drivers’ Ed class is now open. Classes start Monday in room 2102 right after school. Parent meeting is this Saturday morning at 8 am in the upstairs of the field house.
